The Best Frozen & Strong Margaritas in Houston, TX (2026 Guide)

It’s too hot in Houston to pretend otherwise. A frozen margarita isn’t a treat here, it’s a survival tool. Between March and October, “where should we go for margaritas” is basically a full-time text thread topic in this city, and I’ve spent years working my way through it so you don’t have to guess.

Here are some of the best spots to get a frozen and strong margarita in Houston Tx.

Frozen margarita at Gloria's Houston

Swirl Margarita

Gloria's Latin Cuisine

Gloria's has been serving award winning margaritas for years, and once you try one made with 100% agave Monte Alban reposado tequila and Gran Gala orange liqueur, you get why. I love mine frozen, but they'll do it on the rocks too. Their happy hour runs all day Monday through Friday, with house margaritas dropping as low as $7.

📍 2616 Louisiana St, Houston, TX 77006

Frozen margarita at Ambriza Houston

Ambriza

Ambriza has built a whole following around its spicy margaritas, and the Cucumber Serrano and Mango Habanero are the two I always see people ordering back to back. It's earned multiple local "best margarita" honors, and honestly, the happy hour makes it easy to see why.

📍 10115 Louetta Rd, Ste 400, Houston, TX 77070

margarita at Mexican Sugar Houston

Hibiscus Margarita & La Catrina

Mexican Sugar

If you want your margarita with a view, this is the spot. Mexican Sugar sits inside a nearly 13,000 square foot space with rooftop patios overlooking Buffalo Bayou Park and the downtown skyline, and their agave library has over 150 tequilas, mezcals, and sotols to choose from. I always end up ordering the Margarita Flight so I can try the Classico, Hibiscus, and Machete (serrano, watermelon, cucumber, lime, and mint) side by side. The hibiscus margarita alone is worth the trip.

📍 3505 W Dallas St, Houston, TX 77019

Candente

This one wasn't on my original list, but it belongs here. Candente is the only Tex-Mex restaurant in Houston to earn a "Recommended" designation in the Michelin Guide for Texas, and their margarita program is part of why. They pour six margaritas, each built with a different tequila style (blanco, reposado, añejo), so you can actually taste the difference between a sharp, bright pour and a caramelly, barrel-aged one. Shaken or frozen, both are on the menu.

📍 5101 Bellaire Blvd, Bellaire, TX 77401 (also in Montrose)

Original Ninfa's

The Ninfarita traces back to the restaurant's original 1973 recipe, still made with 100% Weber blue agave tequila blanco, and it's practically a rite of passage for anyone claiming to know Houston Tex-Mex. This location is Uptown on Post Oak, but the recipe hasn't changed since Ninfa's opened its doors. If you want something more modern, ask for the Navigation Margarita instead, made with fresh lime juice, agave nectar, and Cointreau.

📍1700 Post Oak Blvd #1-190, Houston, TX 77056

El Tiempo Cantina

This is the one I actually go to, the original El Tiempo, opened by the Laurenzo family (of Ninfa's fame) back in 1998 on Richmond Ave. It's the spot that started all 18 locations across the city, and the margaritas here are consistently the ones I see reviewers calling strong, not the watered-down sipping kind.

📍3130 Richmond Ave, Houston, TX 77098

Los Tios

Fun fact before you order: Los Tios claims to have introduced Houston to its very first frozen margarita, back in 1975. Fifty years later, it's still a ritual for a lot of Houston families, and the lunch special (margarita plus fajita tacos) is one of the best deals in the city. No frills, no scene, just a margarita that's been getting it right since before most of the other spots on this list existed.

📍 5192 Buffalo Speedway, West University Place, TX 77005

Pistolero's

Frozen Margarita at Pistoleros Houston

Pistolero's is Montrose's go-to Tequila & Taco Bar, and Margarita Monday alone is worth building a week around, $4 house margaritas, rocks or frozen, all day. It's a bar-forward, DJ-and-patio kind of spot rather than a sit-down Tex-Mex dinner, so if you want margaritas with a livelier, later-night energy instead of a dinner table vibe, this is the one.

📍 1517 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77006
